Orthodontics – Braces

The reason we went to Chanhassen Family Dentistry is because we researched the cost of braces (since we were going to have 3 kids in braces) and Chanhassen Family Dentistry was significantly less expensive than the other places. The general service has been terrific. We get in as soon as we get there and the people are all so friendly. We’ve been really pleased with the results.

Invisalign® Braces

Invisalign® braces are a series of custom-made aligner trays that gradually shift your teeth into place. The clear plastic trays snap into place, but are removable, so you can eat, brush and floss, as usual. It is important to keep your mouth healthy throughout the straightening process. Aligner trays are changed approximately every two weeks, for a period of many months. Read more…

Invisalign may be covered by insurance. Contact your provider to ask if coverage is included in your policy.

Chanhassen Family Dentistry is a Preferred Provider of Invisalign Adult and Teen braces, so you can be assured of a good outcome and a better smile.

Conventional Braces

Conventional dental braces work by applying pressure to the teeth, moving them gradually over time. Most of this pressure comes from a metal wire called an archwire. The archwire is attached to tiny brackets that are glued to the front of each tooth. Rubber bands called ligatures go around the brackets and put added pressure on the teeth. The shape of the archwire is changed systematically to apply pressure where it’s needed.

Retainers

Retainers are used to complete the straightening process that your braces began. They are designed to keep the teeth in place over a period of time, until your teeth are stable in their new position. Retainers can also be used to align teeth if only slight adjustments are needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

1What orthodontic options do you offer?
We provide traditional braces, clear aligners, and retainers to help straighten teeth and correct bite issues.
2What’s the best age to get orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment can start as early as age 7, but that doesn’t mean younger is always better. Early evaluations help identify potential issues while a child’s jaw is still developing, which can sometimes make treatment easier or shorter down the line. That said, many teens and adults achieve great results too—age isn’t the only factor. The best timing depends on the individual’s dental development, needs, and goals. A consultation with Dr. Leonard can help determine the ideal time to begin.
3How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Treatment time varies, but most orthodontic plans last between 12 and 24 months, depending on the case.
4Are clear aligners as effective as braces?
Yes, clear aligners can effectively treat many cases, especially mild to moderate misalignment, and are more discreet than traditional braces.
5Do you offer orthodontics in Chaska or just Chanhassen?
We offer orthodontic consultations and treatments at our Chanhassen location.
